PhD Programme Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students studying in the field of agribusiness, cooperative discipline, Finance, Accounting, Banking or related. Two scholarships will be awarded in the fields of agribusiness, cooperatives or related disciplines. Two scholarships will be awarded in the areas of Finance, Accounting and Banking.

PhD Programme Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be registered for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012. Previous CoBank Scholarship recipients are not eligible.

VTCA Transportation Engineering Scholarship Phd Programme

The VTCA Transportation Engineering Scholarship Phd Programme to provide financial assistance to qualified and deserving students attending Virginia institutions of higher learning specializing in engineering/technical curriculum related to the transportation industry. Eligible students will be a freshman, sophomore or junior enrolled in a four-year engineering or related technical program as a full-time undergraduate at an accredited university in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

PhD Programme Studentship Migrant histories: local, national and international perspectives

A PhD research studentship to be supervised by the world class migration and ethnicity history team at De Montfort University, is available to suitably qualified UK or EU students only, due to the funding restrictions.

The proposed studentship focuses upon migration to Britain over the past century. Being based upon the city of Leicester, one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the UK, this studentship offers a particular opportunity for locally urban focussed research, examining the experiences of migrants in Leicester, while tying them in with national and international perspectives, situating any research within established social science and historical paradigms. Although Leicester now contains a significant population of South Asian origin, which stands at around 40 per cent, international migration to the city encompassed the entire 20th century so that the city witnessed important streams of Irish, East European and Southern European settlement by the 1970s, which has taken off again in recent decades from the European Union.

We would welcome applications working on the following timely and relevant areas of investigation, all of which offer significant scope for further historical and contemporary research:

Migrants' workplace experiences Caste and class and its importance in the functioning of ethnic communities Inter-ethnic friendships and relationships Transnational links and remittances Migrants' mobilities and migration journeys Migrant communities, material culture and consumption The evolution of ethnic economies

The supervisory team have particular expertise in South Asian and East European migration, but the studentship could research any migrant group and could be comparative in nature. Thus we would welcome applications which focus upon, for instance, the evolution of a South Asian ethnic economy in Leicester since the 1960s or a project which dealt with the importance of all migrants in the evolution of the restaurant trade in Leicester from Greek Cypriots and Italians to Bangladeshis and Gujuratis.

PhD: High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) phd programme

We invite applications for a funded Ph.D. position in the Silicon Research Group at Tyndall National Institute, starting before September 2010.

Background
High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is the most widely used technique for chemical analysis. The main advantage of developing a miniaturised HPLC system-on-a chip is the system’s ability to execute all the steps involved in the chromatographic process on a single platform. A fully developed miniaturised HPLC system can perform on-chip injection, separation and detection. This micro-system has enormous potential and has a number of clear advantages over conventional HPLC systems. Its compact size enables the system to handle extremely small sample volumes (in the nano- and pico-litre range), enabling rapid separation times of the order of seconds rather than minutes or more. Its small size also allows minimisation of the use of expensive reagents, as in the case of drug discovery in the pharmaceutical industry.

Project:
The three year PhD position with fellowship is available as a part of European Union (EU) project called ARROWS. The goal of ARROWS is to develop a micro-engineered platform for the analysis of real-world samples from the food, drink and healthcare industries. The principle deliverable will be a chip-scale capillary electrophoresis/liquid chromatography mass spectrometer (CE/LC-MS) that matches the performance of today s mainframe systems. The successful applicant will work as part of a multidisciplinary research team, which has a focus on the development of a miniaturized HPLC chip in addition to integration of all elements of the final platform.

The research will involve development of fluid pumping systems, design of the complete HPLC system, and mechanical and chemical characterization of the HPLC system. There will be close collaboration between research groups and industry across Europe.

Applications are invited from scientists and engineers who hold (or expect to obtain before October 2010) a first or second class honours undergraduate degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronic/electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.
